When Love Dies

Love unravels, twisting, wrinkling down
Abraded by dirt, dragged through the dust
Hastened by selfish deceptions
Shattered by broken promises, broken trust

Trust is a chancy thing; love’s twin
Never far, entwined within the heart
And love wilted when trust was broken
One half dies without the other part

It feels, sometimes like sadness
This cold emptiness inside
Where once twin souls flourished
Now loathing and disgust abide.

Memories soiled, rotted, despoiled
Respect withering, ill
Forgiveness will never come
While disgust is nurtured still
